The 2009 Piersol Cup Year Long Match Play Members Tournament

All matches need to be completed by 9/19.
Point system goes like this (GAP SCORING SYSTEM):
1 pt for winning the front 9 holes
1 pt for winning the back 9 holes
1 pt for winning the total pts and how ever many holes you won by . For example win by 1 hole you get a 1/4 of a pt extra---2 holes you would receive a 1/2 pt. For every hole you won by you get a extra 1/4 pt .
The 2nd half of the season starts 7/13/2009 and runs for 9 weeks ending in the 3rd week in September. That weekend we will have championship weekend. More details in pro shop if needed.
$5 entry fee goes toward trophies. Results for all matches will be posted in the snack bar area and here on the Honeybrook website. This is a point driven tournament so play hard for 18 holes. Everyone has a chance .This match play is handicapped with 80% of your course handicap. Please talk to Dale if you have questions.
PIERSOL CUP FORMAT
1. After 3 matches players will be listed according to point total, highest to lowest.
2. The field will be divided in half with the top point earners placed into the HIGH (Ted) division
and the lowest point earners placed into the LOW (Tom) division.
3. Ties to determine divisions will be broken by 18 hole match record first, then # of 9 hole matches won, then by 1/4 point total.
4. The top 4 point earners will be grouped together followed by the next 4 highest point earners on down for each division. For ties within the divisions, the priority will be to place players into groups of players that they didn't play in the first half, if possible.
5. Points earned from first half will be added to the points earned in 2nd half for an accumulated point total.
6. At the conclusion of the 2nd half matches the top 8 point earners in each division will play off in singles matches on Sunday September 20.
Note: A player in the Ted division with a higher point total than a player in the Tom division will not be in the playoff unless they are one of the top 8 of their own division!
7. Ties for the final playoff positions will be determined the same as for first half.
Playoff format:
1. Top 8 Players from each division will be ordered from 1 to 16 based on points earned in regular season.
Your position in the point standings will determine your seed for the playoff pairings. Top seed will go to the highest point earner, etc.
3. Players will be matched in groups of 4 according to seed. See pairings below.
4. Each player in the group will play a singles match against every other player in their group.
In other words each player will play 3 matches at the same time.
5. Total points earned on the day of the playoff will be added to the season total for the players total points.
6. Highest Total point earner will be determined PIERSOL CUP CHAMPION. 2nd highest total point earner will be runner up.
7. In case of tie for champion or runnerup, their will be a hole by hole sudden death playoff!
Pairings for final playoff:
GROUP #1: 1 8 9 16
GROUP #2: 2 7 10 15
GROUP #3: 3 6 11 14
GROUP #4: 4 5 12 13
Note: numbers in each group are your playoff seed. i.e. in group 1 #1 seed player will play #8, #9 #16. #8 seed player will play #1, #9, #16 etc.
